Peyton Manning’s Code #StoryTimeWithCalebHanie

By Caleb Hanie As a backup quarterback, you are assigned certain projects and tasks weekly during the regular season. This can look like anything from watching blitz tapes and pulling clips to help the starter and the rest of the QBs prepare for the week to doing more of a deep dive into something specific on film. Heck, for me, as a rookie, it consisted of buying gourmet breakfast every Friday and bringing it into the QB room to enjoy for morning meetings. Whatever it takes to get a win, right?   My time in Denver was amazing. In a few of my other blogs, I have written about my …

Andrew, I Wish You Health and Peace #StoryTimeWithJP

By Jerraud Powers 2012. We just came off of a terrible 2011 season that got a great coaching staff and front office fired. Peyton Manning got released that off season. Jim Irsay hired Ryan Grigson and Chuck Pagano, as general manager and head coach. All the talk that off season was about a “can’t miss QB prospect” out of Stanford. Everyone was raving how good this kid was and how he might be the best QB prospect since Peyton Manning himself. I grew up watching Peyton play, and I viewed him as one of the best to ever do it. He was fun to watch too, as it always looked like he was directing a symphony out there on the field; yelling random words, moving his arms all around, signaling to just about everyone on the field. He looked, at times, like a mad scientist out there running the clock down to darn …

My First Day With Peyton Manning #StoryTimeWithCalebHanie

By Caleb Hanie I grew up watching Peyton Manning. So, when I signed with the Denver Broncos in 2012 to be one of Peyton’s backups, I was eager to meet him and see what he was really like. My first day around #18 started off in the weight room. I quickly realized that he was relentless. During our first few sets on our first exercise in the Broncos weight room, he started yelling for some footballs. The assistant strength coaches, and whatever intern was standing around, looked at each other like, “Footballs? Did you get some footballs? Were we SUPPOSED to get footballs?” Nevertheless, Peyton wasn’t kidding around, so the …
