Wesley Woodyard’s Scary Remarks During Game #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl Bennett Inside of a Riddell helmet there is this huge “WARNING” sticker. The sticker explains all the dangers of improperly using the helmet. For me, it was the last few words that really hit me after I was told by Wesley Woodyard that he was going to kill me during my freshman year when Kentucky played Vandy in Nashville. Trash talking is one thing. Very typical in sports all around and no different in football. You hear the usual “You suck,” “Take your sorry ass to the sideline,” and “Your mom should be ashamed of your sorry ass” quotes all the time. Trash talk is a part of …

The Fight Between Robbie Gould and Hester That Almost Happened #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl B. Bennett Playing with Future Hall of Famers comes with positives and negatives. The positive is obvious. You are playing with great generational players who are headed into Canton, Ohio. The negative can sometimes be that they know they are great players and may overlook flaws in their own game. But, when one Future Hall of Famer points out another future Hall of Famer’s flaws, prepare for a showdown. This battle was between Specialists — Devin Hester vs Robbie Gould in an epic face-off. Da Bears Trade For Cutler #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl B. Bennett April 2, 2009 I was back on Vanderbilt’s campus taking courses to fulfill my degree. My professor, former Vanderbilt football alum Roosevelt Noble, was always a treat. The course, Deviant Behavior, made it all the more intriguing. During one class period, things north of Nashville would drastically change. I consider myself a consummate student and always hold myself accountable to be studious and coherent. After finishing a disappointing rookie year, I wanted to make sure I finished my degree in case the following year was my last year as a professional football player. The Sociology course was interesting, but a call from a particular individual quickly …

Mike Martz Quit During First Training Camp #StoryTimeWithEarl
In 2010 the hire of Mike Martz sent a message to the offense. The message was loud and clear — we needed to score more points. This hire brought in new coaches and teammates. This hire also saw coaches and teammates fired and traded. First impression is everything. Coach Martz going through OTAs and mini camp wasn’t that tough. He seemed very energetic and an optic genius. The way he analyzed the field and critiqued every play was unreal. “The Wizard” was his nickname. There was excitement to get the season started. Training camp began with the trade of Greg Olsen. A budding star who everyone loved and knew would …
