Kyle Long and “A Pack Man” #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl Bennett If you know or have met Kyle Long, you know he does not hold any punches. Kyle is straight forward and gets right to the point. After he was drafted we saw how well he meshed with the team. His personality was needed in the locker room. What I will never forget is our conversation on the road for an away game.   After losing a few key guys on the offensive line, we needed a tough SOB like Kyle. In my opinion this was a draft pick that the Trestman era got right. We knew he was tough and once he got comfortable in the offense, …

Wreck with DJ #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl Bennett After defeating the Buffalo Bills in 2010 with a game-winning touchdown I decided to go out with my pal, best bud DJ Moore. Two peas in a pod. We were roommates on the road and we typically went to places together in each city. From finding the best chicken shack to the best entertainment, we looked forward to adventure in each city. When we got back from our business trip to Toronto we decided to hit the streets of Chicago to celebrate.   I had just gotten my 1973 Impala out of the shop. Some interior work and speakers were installed. I put some 24-inch rims on …

Almost A Bronco #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl Bennett My first year as a Chicago Bear was depressing. I would practice each week as if my time was coming, however I was not playing during the games. I would get to the field on Sundays and notice a sweat suit in my locker for not being a part of the 46 roster. No matter how well I performed in practice, it still did not warrant me the opportunity to play. Having a lot of veterans on the roster was one of the issues. We had Marty Booker, Brandon Lloyd, Rashied Davis, Devin Hester and Mark Bradley. Not only were most of these guys annoying and irritating, …

Vontaze Burfict vs Brandon Marshall #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl Bennett Vontaze Burfict’s recent suspension has brought more awareness to the selfish, intentional, negligent mooncalf who has been content trying to end careers. September 8, 2013 we squared off against the Bengals and Burfict. We were all aware of his antics and foul play, so we expected a chippy game. The fiasco would not take long especially after remarks made by Burfict in reference to Brandon Marshall. As the trash talking ensued between Burfict and Marshall, I saw it go south quickly. Burfict told Marshall, “I’m going to beat you, like you beat your wife.” Now, trash talking is fair game until you bring up family. The situation …

Peppers and Cutler #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl Bennett There are very few people who frighten me in this world. Brock Lesnar, being one of them. Playing with someone who scares you is different. Not scared in a way that I was fearful of my life — just in a way that if a fight went down I would have to pray that God gave me David-like abilities. The one player who possesses the traits of Goliath on the team was Julius Peppers.    Standing 6 feet 7 inches, Julius towered over pretty much every football player. Weighing 295 pounds placed him in the range of the sloppy fat lineman you see with their bellies out. …

Vanderbilt’s Michael Jordan #StoryTimeWithDJMoore

By DJ Moore I arrived on Vanderbilt’s campus full of optimism. I had just graduated from high school and would attend summer session at Vanderbilt University. I had never really even heard of Vanderbilt until they started recruiting me. After that, I began to see them all the time on television. The first time I had ever watched a game was a Vanderbilt vs. Tennessee game. A young freshman wide receiver was making plays all over the field. I think he won the game on a slant or something like that. After a little 7 on 7, it was time for DB vs. WR. If you know me, you know …

Favorite Player? My Ass Tice #StoryTimeWithEarl

By Earl Bennett Ever had someone tell you how much they like you? That you were their wife’s favorite player? But, they never included you in the game plan?  Well, that was me in 2012 as part of the Mike Tice regime. Man, did I want OUT!    Every other day Coach Tice would approach me with a grin like the Grinch. Never really asked me about my feelings about the playbook, upcoming opponents or how was I doing. His first comment would be, “You know you’re my wife’s favorite player.”  First, how random is that? There was Rex Ryan’s wife’s infatuation for Mark Sanchez. But, Mark was the quarterback. …
