A locker room full of swag and confidence transferred over to social media. Members of the 2013 Chicago Bears found a way to have fun despite the change in management and coaching staff.
In 2012, Instagram was purchased by Facebook and more users began to utilize the platform. Professional entertainers, athletes and society began flocking to create an account. In the Bears locker room, freestyle Friday was shut down by the new coaching staff, so we had to find alternatives to celebrate and have fun. Most guys joined Instagram and then the fun began.
Thursday practices were always a lot of running. We ran third down and long yardage plays that would have anyone gasping for air after the first session. But, we would celebrate before or after practice with the hashtag #IGTHURSDAY. This hashtag would carry us throughout the dismal season.
The unity and bonding in the locker room is something that cannot be re-enacted. The laughter, jokes and nonstop stories made the atmosphere light and fun. We always tried to create new avenues of enjoyment and #IGTHURSDAY was one of them. Just look at the guys in the photo and that will give you a clear snapshot of how #IGTHURSDAY united men in a locker room. From Jay Cutler, Devin Hester, Major Wright to Craig Steltz, Armando Allen and JT Thomas, we knew what Thursday was about #IGTHURSDAY.
