Let me set the stage. Mathew Stafford and I have a misunderstanding which led to me being ejected from a game. This situation was a fascinating moment in my career. Most players on opposing teams never addressed me about the case until one night in Green Bay.
As usual, I got to the field early to warm up before the game. I walked out of the tunnel to enter the historic Lambeau Field. I frequently was greeted by players on the opposing team who I knew from playing in college together or against each other. That day a voice called to me saying, “D what up?” I’m assumed it was one of my old talking buddies, but to my surprise, it was Aaron Rodgers. I had played against him for the last couple of years and never thought he would know my name or talk to me like we were buddies. At that time, people were projecting him to be the greatest quarterback of all time. Why was he talking to a guy like me who was projected to be the most mediocre of all time? I said what’s up back, and he proceeded to say “I’m glad you did that to him, he is a douche”—referring to Stafford.
I was shocked that he openly stated his displeasure about the quarterback. I nodded and continued with my warm-up routine, not thinking much of the comments. Looking back on the conversation makes me wonder why he didn’t find Stafford a likable guy.
