Fashion has always been a part of the NFL. Joe Namath with the fur coat to Deion Sanders with the gold chains and sweet pregame outfits. Now, players like Odell Beckham and DeAndre Hopkins are keeping the tradition going. Though some players can pull certain looks off, there are some who should stay away.
In 2011, we signed Roy Williams to the team. The Odessa product never failed to provide laughter whether it was intentional or not. Roy’s jokes or his unserious nature were constant — his outfits followed suit.
Roy never tried to impress with his clothes. Whether it was his old school jeans or his game day outfits. While in London, Roy’s choice of clothing was let’s say peculiar. This game day outfit brought a lot of attention to Roy that he did not like. You can tell by the reaction to me taking this photo. Roy’s three-piece suit with the red silk tie, pocket square and his hat were awful, but it was Roy. Yes, we cracked jokes but again it was Roy. We knew to expect the worst outfits EVERY WEEK!
Though fashion has been a part of the NFL for a long time, it is not for everyone. Yes, some guys can wear the weirdest clothing and look cool and some can wear the weirdest clothing and look silly. Roy was always the latter, but he never shied away from trying to show his Sunday best.
