“Nonstop” #StoryTimeWithEarl

The offseason 2014, my agents CJ Laboy and Doug Henderickson knew a change was coming. After taking a million dollar pay cut and earning back half in 2013, we figured they would ask the same or release me. My mindset was to do what was best for my family and career whether it was playing in Chicago or elsewhere. After speaking to team officials in late February, they assured my agent that I was a part of the 2014 season plans.

Fast forward to March 18th, and I received a call asking me to take a pay cut or be released. I wondered if I would have the same language to recoup pay and they stated “NO.” After careful consideration, I thanked them for my time in Chicago, and my search for a new team began.

After being released, friends reached out. Guys such as RB#1, TE#1, and QB#2 all sent well wishes. QB#1 did not reach out. However, I would receive a text message in June after I signed with the Browns.

The insolent text from QB#1 read: “At least you get to meet Drake.” Yes, Drake the Rapper/ Pop singer from Toronto, aka The 6 God. In the first round of the 2014 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns selected quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M Johnny Manziel. Manziel is friends with Drake and is a member of his OVO crew. That’s why QB#1 was referencing meeting Drake.

Let me assure you there is no malice here. The blog post is not meant to be a dis. This post comes from positive vibes and high spirits.  However, I am playing a Drake tune. It is not “In my Feelings.” It’s “Nonstop,” because “I don’t have no time for no misunderstandings again.” #StoryTimeWithEarl
